Every Girl is a Queen
Marchesa Autumn Winter 2016
The great American artist John Singer Sargent’s portraits became the starting point for this collection, celebrating each and every girl. She is a regal creature in a variety of ornate dresses, walking the royal gardens of Highgrove house in Gloucestershire, England.
A starting point that leads to multiple designs:
A damask wallpaper from an estate became the base of a seminal artwork. Using two different techniques, the same artwork was recycled to create very different looks.
A vintage inspiration to a new interpretation:
A vintage floral threadwork below inspires artwork and technique. An off the shoulder flutter sleeve gowns is reinterpreted with marabou feathers, and a regal gold and blue gown utilizes the same artwork in a different colorway.
When the Jewelry turns to the Dress :
Manipulating a pearl necklace artwork to achieve a heavily encrusted jeweled gown with beaded fringe layers for a handful of looks, this provided a counterbalance to the voluminous lighter pieces of chiffon and tulle.
